Great Workout at San Shi

Friday night 10 students from Escondido Judo went out to San Shi Judo Club to train. The sensei there were helpful and the school was friendly. We warmed up for about 20 minutes and then spent the rest of the time alternating between newaza randori (mat work) and tachiwaza randori (standing work). Thanks for a great workout!

Extra Judo Class

EJC students … we are invited to workout with San Shi Judo Club on Friday, January 28th at 6:00 pm. You can their dojo by clicking on the San Shi link on the home page of our site. In order to practice you must be a member of USJF. Not a member? No worries, we can sign you up that night! This class for kids and adults. After class the adults are invited to randori with San Shi’s black belt students!

Kids Win Big at the Tournament!

Not only did we take 13 students to the tournament and return with 13 medals, but everyone learned a ton about judo and judo competition. The tournament was extremely well ran (thanks to San Shi and Sensei Bill Caldwell) and all the kids had two to four matches each.

San Shi Judo Novice Tournament

There will be a novice tournament (orange belt and lower) for students ages 5-16 on Saturday, August 28th in Vista, CA. This will be an excellent “first tournament” and everyone should plan on attending. For USJF Members the cost is $10 and for non-USJF Members the cost is $60 ($50 for one year membership with USJF and $10 for the entry fee). For more information click here.

San Shi Visits Escondido Judo

Sensei Bill Caldwell (left) brought some of his students from San Shi to work out with us here at Escondido Judo. Since our students all train with Gracie Barra we decided to share some of our newaza techniques with them.

Pendulum Sweep (or the Hugee Sweep) –> Tate Shiho Gatame

Hip Sweep –> Tate Shiho Gatame

Butterfly Sweep –> Tate Shiho / Yoko Shiho / Kesa Gatame

Everyone had a lot of fun and we hope to travel to San Shi in August or September to learn some nagewaza from them.

Combined Class with San Shi

Join us on July 17th from 11:00-12:30 at Gracie Barra Escondido for a combined junior workout with our friends from San Shi Judo Club. We will focus on newaza (ground technique), have a lot of fun doing judo and make some new friends. Everyone needs to be a member of USJF (applications will be available on-site) in order to participate. We’ll see you there!
